* Muslims are the followers of the Islamic religion.
The predominance of Muslims in the Middle East and North Africa is due to Muhammad's efforts to spread the Islamic religion around 620 AD. Muhammad was the founder of the Islamic religion. In 610 AD, Muhammad received a revelation from God, and began traveling in the Middle East to preach his new found knowledge. While traveling, he gained many devoted followers. When Muhammad died, his son gathered his followers, and moved west from Saudi Arabia to spread the religion to much of the Middle East and North Africa.
