OPEC, or the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, was originally created by five governments including, Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. The organization was made to coordinate the oil industry in multiple countries. Through OPEC, states are guaranteed a steady income, along with consumers being able to obtain a supply of oil. OPEC has brought great economical success to multiple countries by allowing them to have a strong industry to build on. Between 1960 and 2007, over six countries in the Middle East and North African region have joined the organization, including Algeria, Iraq, Libya, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
